I have never made millions of dollars by selling any business. I have never been a super spy. I have never been a successful sportsman (although I think I did pretty decent in racket ball against a good friend of mine). I have no famous friends (but I did manage to get a picture with Donald Brown).
So what is the purpose of my blog?
I want this blog to reach You in a way that it will make You step back and see things from a different angle or through different glasses if you wish. I do not want to change Your opinion on anything as I believe that You should formulate Your own opinion. However I strongly believe that sometimes putting things into a different perspective will help to see details that otherwise would have remained hidden and so You can make a better decision on Your own.
And why did I start blogging?
I want to see how far I can take this experiment. I have a very strong engineering mindset and by writing, I am looking for stepping out of my regular boundaries and try something very different. I have been thinking about sharing thoughts on various topics for a while. Well here it comes. Actually I have been blogging for family and friends in Hungarian for almost 7 years now, but never in English.
I have reached a point in my life, when I had to stop, look back and evaluate the past, assess where I am right now and think what I want to achieve in the future. Then after some serious thinking one of the outcome was the idea of this blog. Funny, that few days after writing this, I ended up reading Penelope Trunk’s blog and browsing through her various posts, I found her guide on blogging. The first sentence in her post is: “A blog is a great way to figure out what you want to do with yourself because writing regularly is a path to self-discovery.”
My posts have not changed your life and they do not always correlate to each other, so what is going on here?
As an alternative answer for all the above questions could be much better explained by a short part of the movie Forrest Gump, when Forrest is running across the country and people are trying to find out the exact reason why he is doing that. Here is how that conversation goes:
Hannibal Reporter #1 (Juan Singleton): “Why are you running?”
Hannibal Reporter #2 (Chiffonye Cobb): “Are you doing this for world peace?”
Hannibal Reporter #3 (Bobby Richardson): “Are you doing this for the homeless?”
Hannibal Reporter #2: “Are you running for women’s rights?”
Local Correspondent #2 (Peter Bannon): “Or for the environment?”
Hannibal Reporter #1: “Or for animals?”
Forrest: “They just couldn’t believe that somebody would do all that running for no particular reason.”
Hannibal Reporter #2: “Why are you doing this?”
Forrest: “I just felt like running. I just felt like runnin’.“
Well in my case: I just felt like blogging. I just felt like bloggin‘…
